Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

Position Overview

The Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS programs across TenCate operations. This role partners closely with field operations, manufacturing, and corporate leadership to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a strong, proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage company-wide EHS programs, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations
  • Conduct jobsite, facility, and manufacturing safety audits and inspections
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; lead root cause analyses and corrective actions
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for field, manufacturing, and office employees
  • Support project teams with site-specific safety plans, JSAs, and hazard assessments
  • Maintain safety metrics, reporting, and documentation
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims in coordination with HR and insurance partners
  • Partner with leadership to drive continuous improvement in safety performance
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for EHS-related matters
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives, including waste management and spill prevention
  • Assist with emergency response planning and drills
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience, ideally within construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems
  • Experience supporting multi-site or multi-state operations
  • Proven ability to influence safety culture at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to travel regularly to jobsites and facilities
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or similar are a plus
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk jobsites, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
